Military Service/Public Safety – Kevin Remington retired in 2006 after 22 years of combined active federal service in the Regular Army and the North Dakota Army National Guard. During his time in the Regular Army, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and completed dozens of overseas deployments across nearly 20 countries. He concluded his military career in the North Dakota Army National Guard, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major.

Following his military service, Kevin worked as a contract instructor for a Minnesota-based law enforcement training company. He served as a primary instructor for numerous tactical law enforcement courses, including Basic SWAT, Advanced SWAT, Sniper, Hostage Rescue, Less Lethal Munitions, and related programs.

Government – In addition to his military service, Kevin was elected to the Richardton City Commission in 2018. During his tenure, the city updated and fully digitized all municipal codes so they could be accessed by county Sheriff’s deputies in squad cars. He helped build community support for an approximately $8 million street renovation project and worked to improve the city’s budgeting process to ensure transparency and accuracy in how taxpayer dollars were managed. Throughout this period, Richardton maintained the lowest property tax mill rate among surrounding communities.

Agriculture – Kevin’s agricultural experience began early. During high school, he worked on farms hauling hay, milking cows, and clearing fields. In 1985, during a break in military service, he worked on a feedlot near Regent managing 1,200 feeder steers. Since returning to North Dakota in 1998, Kevin has assisted two different grain farms during spring planting and harvest seasons.

Energy Industry – From 2006 to approximately 2011, Kevin worked at the Coteau Freedom Mine as a heavy equipment operator in the reclamation department. He was also one of the initial investors in Red Trail Energy in Richardton, North Dakota.

Hospitality and Tourism Industry – Kevin has worked as a certified hunting guide licensed by the State of North Dakota for more than 25 years, contributing to the state’s outdoor recreation, tourism, and hospitality economy.

Leadership Experience

Military LeadershipKevin Remington served 22 years in the United States Army and the North Dakota Army National Guard, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. During his military career, he worked on special projects within the Special Operations community that required a Top-Secret security clearance. Kevin served as a Green Beret and was assigned to three different “A Teams” within the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Business LeadershipKevin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and has applied his leadership experience in the private sector. He has served on the Board of Directors for an S-Corporation based in North Dakota and was an initial investor in a renewable energy project within the state.

Civic LeadershipKevin has served as a City Commissioner for the City of Richardton, North Dakota, where he initiated and led multiple community projects and infrastructure improvements. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Regent Rural Ambulance District and is the Chairman of the Nominating and Resolutions Committee for Slope Rural Electric Cooperative.

Education & Leadership Development Kevin has been invited to present leadership programs at several universities in North Dakota. He has also conducted leadership training as a contract instructor for organizations across the state and in other regions, including West Virginia.

Eight years after his retirement, Command Sergeant Major Remington was recognized by the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command for his service and leadership. On April 4, 2014, the ceremony room at the Fargo MEPS station, where new soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines take their oath of enlistment, was formally dedicated in his honor.
